Why ERC does not detect unconnected pins

autodeskguest
autodeskguest over 15 years ago

The subject sums it up. I relied on the ERC, when making my schematic, to

check the connections. There were no warnings or errors regarding

unconnected pins. The places that the pins are not connected are only

visible when zooming in so that a gate takes the entire screen.

How is this prevented?

Thanks,

Matt

Use frequently "show" to higlight net(s) & pin(s).

This is a workaround, which still could have resulted in the mistake and is

not practical for large designs. I guess the ERC does not function the way

it is described in the help menus.

I have found two main reasons that causes this.

    1. Your grid is set too fine. Use a coarser grid,

normaly 0.01" or 0.005 is ok. This forces the net

to snap correctly to the pin.

    2. The main cause would be the pin type. If the

pin is passive or NC then ERC will not detect the

fault and rightly so. Pins marked as IN OUT or

both will give you a result.

    Hope this helps

    Rudi

Best way would be you send us an example ... There are many reasons

possible and we can only speculate image
