Solder Masks

Is there a way to remove solder masks from my board file? As in I have a

signal input trace that I'd like to connect a BNC to for hooking up to a

function generator. I heard that soldering it on wont be easy with a solder

mask, and that i'd have to strip it myself. Any ideas?

    More info needed.

From what you say, the BNC connector is not on the board, so you need

to connect wires to the appropriate tracks to go to the connector.

If so, why not just use a couple of terminals on the board (maybe

something from the testpad.lbr would suit). In this case you will have a

pad to which you can solder the wire.

Or am I misunderstanding completely ?

There are a couple of things you can do here.

    1. In the cam file remove the solder mask file from the cam job.  This

will give you a board with no solder mask.

    2. This is what I've done in the past to give me copper area for mounting

TO-220 packages to the copper area for heat sinking.  In the solder mask

layer create a polygon to expose the area that you need to have bare

copper.  In your case, if I understand you right.  You need to create a

polygon of one of your signal traces.  This should give you the bare

copper for attaching your BNC connector
