Elements change between library and board

I've created a new device an a private library. When I use the device

on a board Eagle modifies the pad size. Suddenly they are large and fat.

Here a comparison of what I see in the library editor and the PCB:

What are I doing wrong !

In thunderbird searching the subject for pad size shows a few hits.
try http://www.cadsoft.de/faq.htm.en#06012601
The DRC setting override the lib's setting but I am unsure if ver 5 has
additional features/options or the restring.
