Here is a great little project I'd love to START my Eagle work with. I

beleive I'll grow the project into several little jobs. But, I can't seem to

get started with Eagle!! I've downloaded the 5.0 but can't find my way

around the libraries and can't find any of the three ICs this project needs.

Might I ask one of the members of this group if you can get me started?

Thanks in advance

Please, have a look into the manual and the tutorials first.

Finding parts in the Eagle libraries can be difficult if you're new to Eagle

(and sometimes even if you're not).  Your U1 sounds like a standard 5V

regulator in a TO-220 package.  Look for LM340 or 7805.

Your U2 and U3 are part numbers I've never heard of.  You may end up having

to make your own parts.  It's really not that hard, but you'll have to take

some time to read the manual and understand the process.  Since these chips

have standard DIP footprints, you can use an existing DIP Package from an

existing library, make up your own schematic Symbol, and then create your

own Device using the Symbol and Package, and Connect the respective pins to

    the pads.

    Sorry I was not more specific. The ICs are;

    LM340-T-5 (5vdc voltage regulator)

    NTE2054 or CA3162E

NTE2032 or CA3161E (BCD Display Driver)

Can you tell me what libraries these might already exist in?

It is quicker to make your own device as Bert suggested and any lib you

find should be checked against the data sheet.

But before you get too involved with that project can you find the IC's

    in small or required quantities.

A job like that can be done with a pic microcontroller and some software

for a lot less hardware cost. You just have to have the volume to pay

    for the software time.

Yes. DigiKey has them at reasonable prices. I drive an antique

"International Harvester" Scout and am in a club with 20 or so more of the

same model. My plan is to build "Oil" "Temp" "Fuel" and "Amp" guages which

will fit into the original meter housings and then give them to the members

of my club. Those will be quite a nice addition.

I will investigate making my own. I can see I need time to figure this cad

software out. It is attractive because it will let me move items physicaly

on the board and keep the connections made. That will help me "fit" the

    boards in the small space.

    Thanks for you help.

Hi, I'm new to this thing (not EAGLE).  It happened recently when I opened

up my schematic and tried to add a part.  When the "add" dialog opened,

there was nothing displayed.  I tried re-installing it (turned out instead

of re-installing, I upgraded to the newer version), but that didn't help

either.  I also noticed some strange things happening on my computer.

    Thanks in advance.

At the initial control panel look at the library section and make sure

the libraries have green dots next to them.

In case of windows: Check in control-panel/ options/ directories that

the path is correct. In schematic type at the command line: USE *

to load all libs listed ain the lbr-directory.
