Ver 5.1.0 SET Question

Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

I have been using Eagle Pro versions for many years.  As part of an effort

to upgrade to Ver 5.1.0, I have run across an error message for which I

cannot find an answer.

"Error: Too many values for menu!"  while trying to use set drill_menu in

eagle.scr.

Clearly I have tried to include too many drill values, and I could delete

values until I no longer get the error, but it would be interesting to know

if the value is documented anywhere.  Does anyone know the value or can

provide a reference?

Thanks,

Steve.

It is allowed to have a maximum of 16 values. See also the help

    for the SET command.

I am generating gerbers for a PCB with 18 drill values, and all of the

drills appear as pinpoints in the gerbers, is there only 16 drill values

    allowed in the .drl file?

    cheers,

I removed some components until I have only 14 drills used, and now the

gerbers are generated correctly.  I guess I have been pushing the limits

of eagle too much lately image  Reached maximum schematic size limits and

There is no limit for the number of different drill diameters

for generating manufacturing data. Are sure you used the EXCELLON

device with the layers Drills and Holes active.

You talked about Gerbers and this is not the same as drill data......

    Hi,

Yes I first run drillcfg.ulp, then run excellon.cam, then gerb-274x.cam

I've done several tests with simple boards with just vias, and still

notice this error.  Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but I have made

quite a few PCB's with eagle before that didn't have this problem.

    Sorry, I can't reproduce this.

I made a board with 25 vias with different drill diameters. Each

diameter appears in the rack file and is contained in the excellon

    file.

I tried this with the rack file generated by drillcfg.ulp and the

EXCELLON_RACK device and a second attempt with the EXCELLON device

that writes the drill table into the excellon file.

    Both works fine.

Please try running gerb274x.cam after you run excellon.cam, this

    produces the faulty gerbers.

You talked about Gerbers and this is not the same as drill data......

    Hi,

Yes I first run drillcfg.ulp, then run excellon.cam, then gerb-274x.cam

I've done several tests with simple boards with just vias, and still

notice this error.  Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but I have made

quite a few PCB's with eagle before that didn't have this problem.

    cheers,

    Jamie

    Sorry, I can't reproduce this.

I made a board with 25 vias with different drill diameters. Each

diameter appears in the rack file and is contained in the excellon

    file.

I tried this with the rack file generated by drillcfg.ulp and the

EXCELLON_RACK device and a second attempt with the EXCELLON device

that writes the drill table into the excellon file.

    Both works fine.

    Hi,

Please try running gerb274x.cam after you run excellon.cam, this

is where I noticed the problem, in the gerber files when I load them

into GC-PREVUE.  I can send you my test brd file if you like that

    produces the faulty gerbers.

    Hi,

    please send me the files....

    Hi,

I found out what the problem was while I was getting some files ready to

send, its that the maximum allowable drill size is 0.236" or 0.6cm.  If

the drill size is increased above this size then the drd file will be

incorrect.  I tested this in version 4.16 and version 5.0.0.

Some of my components have holes that are larger than 0.236", so I'm not

sure the best way to get around this.

    cheers,

    Jamie
