locked out of design?

autodeskguest

On a newsgroup a question regarding PCB software was asked, and Eagle

suggested. However, this comment was also made:

"One reason for avoiding Eagle is their policy of locking you out of

your design if you inadvertently include a part that was designed with a

pirated copy."

I've checked various places (including here) and seen no mention - is

this statement accurate?

BTW, no I don't have a 'pirated' copy.

It seems there are three answers to this:

    1) I've never heard of that policy

    2) Why would you use a part from a "pirated" copy when the library

designer is fully functional on the free edition?

    3) I would not reject a piece of software because it had (properly

functional) anti-piracy measures. As long as they don't inadvertently

lock out legitimate use (as some Microsoft ones have been known to) then

it's only fair to expect the vendor to protect their product.

There is, of course, a tendency for people with particular liking for

one product to spread FUD about all others, whether intentionally or

not. Indeed you could accuse me of so doing with my anti-Microsoft

    comment above.

I think this was an issue with one user a few years ago.

Apparently he took a design  that was originally made in a cracked version

of eagle, edited it with his legit version but then could not access the

    file again.

The user then went into a huff when Cadsoft refused to help out with the issue.

    cheers

    David

    many thanks for the responses.

Looks like someone was 'exaggerating' the situation.
