Parts Libraries and Vendor parts list to simplify odering parts

I am looking for a means to make ordering parts that I use in designing PCBs

easier.  It seems to me that an addition to the library of manufacturer and

part number would be useful.  Or possibly a spreadsheet showing the library

and part number with manufacturer and part number.

I would be happy to colaborate on making a comprehensive list of this nature

with others who use Eagle CAD.  This would save us all a ton of time in the

long run.  Maybe Mouser and Digi-key as well as other vendors could be

specified.

Any ideas?  Anybody want to work on this with me?  Has this already been

done?  If so, where can I get ahold of the results?

Please feel free to email me at

Would anyone like to divide up the libraries between us and start putting in

part numbers once we figure out the use of the extra fields in the library

    that Joerg mentioned?

AFAIK Eagle version 5 has additional attribute fields. I don't own that

version but it should be possible to add i.e. a Digikey P/N, a

manufacturer P/N and the manufacturer. Plus probably more if needed. Then

it should be fairly simple to generate a BOM that spits all this out in a

format your purchasing folks can use. However, automatic sprinkling into a

Digikey order form would be a tall order I guess. I've heard the new OrCad

might be able to do that but not sure.

Anyhow, that's how I did it in the days of OrCad SDT. It has 8 part fields

of which only two were occupied. So I used a third for the internal part

numbers clients had assigned, those 4+4 digit sequences we all know. Ah,

the good old days when everything was DOS-based and you could still repair

    your car ...
