Parts Libraries and Vendor parts list to simplify odering parts

I am looking for a means to make ordering parts that I use in designing PCBs

easier.  It seems to me that an addition to the library of manufacturer and

part number would be useful.  Or possibly a spreadsheet showing the library

and part number with manufacturer and part number.

I would be happy to colaborate on making a comprehensive list of this nature

with others who use Eagle CAD.  This would save us all a ton of time in the

long run.  Maybe Mouser and Digi-key as well as other vendors could be

specified.

Any ideas?  Anybody want to work on this with me?  Has this already been

done?  If so, where can I get ahold of the results?

Please feel free to email me at

Tim

Would anyone like to divide up the libraries between us and start

putting in part numbers once we figure out the use of the extra

fields in the library that Joerg mentioned?

Anyhow, be careful. For example, there are literally dozens of part

numbers for, say, the ubiquitous 0.1uF 0805 cap. Some folks need a

higher voltage and can live with Z5U ceramic, others don't need high

voltage but almost get a heart attack if the ceramic material isn't

    at least X7R.

And also resistors. It would be nice if there was a way to also take

into account the value in order to generate a part number. Like just

put in the required specifications and suitable parts are loaded from

    the ordercode database or something.

The current BOM ulp allows for the loading of a parts database.

However, I was confused as to how the parts database gets XREF'd to

the part numbers in the libs.

Really, the parts vendors should provide some assistance in this

matter. If digikey wants us to buy their supply lines then shouldn't

THEY supply a XREF database from manufacturer part number to their

    catalogue numbering scheme???

This gets complicated by susbstitutions of the same parts made by more

than one manufacturer. For example, here are many manufacturers of a

simple 1206 SMD resistor. But some of them vary widely in price. I

know we would all like to minimize cost of manufacture.

Its not really possible to create a global parts database. The parts I

select may not be the ones someone in Europe would choose, due to cost

of locality (shipping, duty, taxes, etc).

Does Digikey have a database of their inventory?

Something similar already exists but I am afraid they may have signed an

    exclusive deal:

I saw a demo of this at PCB West last month.  It was pretty cool -

realtime check of Digikey's inventory.  The vendor is EMA Design

    Automation.
