Parts Libraries and Vendor parts list to simplify odering parts

I am looking for a means to make ordering parts that I use in designing PCBs

easier.  It seems to me that an addition to the library of manufacturer and

part number would be useful.  Or possibly a spreadsheet showing the library

and part number with manufacturer and part number.

I would be happy to colaborate on making a comprehensive list of this nature

with others who use Eagle CAD.  This would save us all a ton of time in the

long run.  Maybe Mouser and Digi-key as well as other vendors could be

specified.

Any ideas?  Anybody want to work on this with me?  Has this already been

done?  If so, where can I get ahold of the results?

Please feel free to email me at

Tim

    Hello Tim,

We are currently working on an EAGLE tool that is related.  We are working

with a major distributor (can't say who yet but you all know who it is) to

tap into their database of parts and extract real-time pricing and

confirmation of part numbers and ROHS status.

It does make use of the attributes that are now available in EAGLE 5 and the

ability to make system calls.  With those two items we can do a lot!

It's not quite as real-time as the EMA Design tool as there just aren't the

hooks in EAGLE to do that--it would have to be done in the actual program.

But at any time you can run this tool and it will create a BOM and then

cross-reference that BOM against the disty database and extract the data.

You'll know right away if there are shortages or errors in your part numbers

The core of it is just a JAVA app (runs on all platforms) that takes a .csv

file with minimum requirements and then adds the info into an output .csv

file.  So it will actually work with any EDA tool that can create the BOM in

the right format (very simple, most can).

Expect to see more in a month or two as we are just entering beta right now.

I know how much time this is going to save me and I'm sure everyone else will

    benefit as well.

The price hasn't been set but will be somewhere from $100-150 range.

    Cheers,

    James.
