Making copies of symbols in libraries

autodeskguest

Why can't symbols be copied like packages and devices?  If I want to

use a symbol from another library, the only way I have found to do it

is to copy a device containing that symbol, and then remove the device

and the packages that came with that device.  Isn't there a more

straightforward way to do it?

    Hi - First Post - step by step:

    1. Open library at desired symbol;

    2. Set Display so layers 91 to 98 All selected;

    3. Group symbol with Group button to include its >Name, >Value etc;

    4. Type command CUT (0 0) ;

    5. Select File New  to get new untitled.lbr ();

    6. Press Symbol button to get Edit Symbol box ;

    7. Enter name of New: Symbol and press OK ;  I chose TEST

    8. Select Yes in Response to "Create new symbol 'TEST' ";

    9. Press Paste button on sidebar;

    10.  Drag and drop symbol over origin.

    I made a simple script file containing CUT (0 0) and added it to my setup.

    Hope that helps!

    It certainly does.  It works perfectly.  Like so many things, it is

    obvious once you know how.

    +1

    I copy symbols as much as I copy packages or devices.  I'm glad to see

    someone else ask the same question.

    Cheers,

    James.
