Reusing packages into new libraries

Is there a way to copy existing packages from any library into another?

I'd like to create a new library and add existing packages to it and

then go through the usual part creation process.  In the past, I've

added a new device into an existing library to utilize it's available

package choices.  I suppose I could also copy & rename an existing

library with Total Commander and then edit the contents as needed, but

it that there should be a more obvious method than that..

Note: Running Standard 4.16 if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

If you are adding parts to one of the Eagle-supplied libraries, then

you will lose your changes whenever you upgrade to a newer version of

Eagle, which will re-install all the factory-fresh Eagle libraries.

Make one or more custom libraries that are all your own.  If you have

your custom library open, then you can drag a package from any other

library by finding it in the Eagle control panel and dragging away.

Same thing for devices.  Unfortunately you can't copy symbols this

way.  However you can copy symbols by following the method described

by Ed Phaneuf on 10/25/2008 in this forum.
