how do I reduce the amount of copper being etched away??

Former Member

Ok stupid question!

It's been several years since using Eagle.

I have my board made up but forget how to make it so that I am not having to

etch away large amounts of copper.

I recall something about drawing a rectangle on the board...... but cant

remember the rest of the steps. I know that once it is done it makes the

gaps between this rectangle and the wires, pads and devices. I guess its

like a mask?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Glen

    Ok thanks that did it.

Draw a polygram around the board then hit ratsnest!

worked great! I was trying to do it with the rectangle image

Remember to make your polygon a ground plane, if you would like the

    potential benefits of additional grounding.

Yes that's a good idea, just need to figure out how to make it the same

plane as the ground- same potential?

    Hello Glen,

To further reduce etching, turn on Orphans when generating your polygon.

    This will fill remaining spaces.

    Regards,

    Mike

I would be a little careful about doing that.   Having copper regions

which are not tied to something may invite EMI problems.
