Hello.  Creating a generic component?

Hello all.  I just started learning EagleCad about two weeks ago.  If this question is in the wrong place please point me in the right direction.

I want to create a generic square that has a certain a mount of pins.  I want to connect an arduino uno to an electronic speed controller.  I just want to represent the ESC as a square with certain number of input and outputs.  How would I do that?

    To start with, it is best to create your own library since libraries

    provided with the distribution can be overwritten with subsequent

    updates and upgrades.

     

    Overall, you need to create a SYMBOL for your device that will be used

    on the schematic.  Then you create a PACKAGE for your part that will be

    used on the board layout.  Then to tie these together, create a DEVICE,

    add the desired symbol to the device, then add the package, and then

    finally connect the pins on the schematic symbol to the pads on the package.

     

    An excellent place to start is with the tutorial, which is included with

    the distribution.  Look for it in $EAGLEDIR/doc.  It's available in

    German, English, and Chinese.
