Pad hole size, please clarify

amerdsp

Hello all,

I am confused about the size of the hole in a pad.  What does it

represent?  The drill size of the finished (including plating and all)?

If it is the drill size, can someone explain how to translate that

from a data sheet?  For example, in this sheet

(http://portal.fciconnect.com/res/en/pdffiles/doc_search/67996.pdf)  the

hole size indicated is 40mil.  What will be the corresponding hole size

in Eagle?

Thanks a bunch.

A

It depends on your board house. Some use that as the drill size others

drill bigger and plate to the hole size.

It is common to specifiy the final hole size (after plating). So the

board house drills bigger. They also take this into account when doing

their own DRC checks for restrings etc.

If your board normally uses the drill diameters as they are, explicitly

tell them to proceed as described above.
