3D-POVRay with Eagle 5.x

ross_valusoft
ross_valusoft over 14 years ago

Hi,

Am investigating the 3D-POVRay efforts by Matthias Weißer. His website

says that Eagle version 4.16 is required ... well maybe he actually

means that is the minimum version required. Not sure ...

Is anyone here using his efforts with Eagle 5.x?

Thanks,

Ross

Why you don't just try it with a copy of your board.

    Thanks for your reply Jörn.

But I have not installed any of the required software and a simple "no

it does not work with 5.x" reply from someone who has tried already

could save me and any future persons some valuable time. Is that fair?

    Cheers,

I have heard that it should work with with ver.5 but did not use it with

    that version myself.

Matthias Weißer has done a great job, but his program doesn't "know" all

of the different devices. So, depending on your board, some devices are

just not rendered. IMHO for a professional view it is not ready yet.

Due to your request, I just took a current design with EAGLE 5.6.0 and

ran the 3d41.ulp. The result worked fine in POVRay, and the picture

appeared correct to me. So basically, the answer is "yes" - but of

course there may be detail problems that I didn't notice with this quick

    test.

If a device is rendered or not depends on the availability of a 3D model

and the correct correlation to the package names in the libraries.

Matthias can't consider all available libraries, especially those that

are custom. I added the 3D models and mapping definitions for the

packages that I use (none of these are original "CadSoft" ones). After

that, it's perfectly fine "for a professional view". Of course, it's not

    a ready-to-use-without-thinking-about-it thingy.

Many thanks Tilmann and Jörn for your efforts and replies. This is very

good news and I am now encouraged to investigate further with my own

    attempts.

    Best wishes,

    Ross

I just tested a little board (did not read the mail before) with 5.6.0

    and it works fine.

That is what I ment with "know".

Well I understood that that Ross just wanted to run it "out of the box" image
