Have choice of 16 layers on 2-layer board

I have a licensed version of Eagle 5.x.  A board is setup for 2 layers in the DRC using "(1*16)" where the graphics,

numbers, copper and isolation all show 2 layers.  The board is laid out with 2 layers.  Typing "cha lay" or the middle

mouse button shows the usual list plus unwanted layers 2-15.  To add insult to injury, a co-worker has an unlicensed

version and it lists only layers 1 and 16 on both his computer and if I copy his whole project over to mine.  Is there

any way to make the unwanted layers go away?  It would speed up hand routing sensitive nets.

    Hi Alan,

Yes, there is a way to do this.  I have found that if I go in and edit the

DRC layer setting and then apply it then all those other layers will go

away.  What I do is change the "1*16" to "1+16" or vice versa, can't

remember off the top of my head.  Then the layers go away.  Since I don't

really care (in EAGLE) that the board is specified with core or prepreg it

    works fine.

I don't work with 2 layers all that often so I don't hit this often.  But

I consider it a bug that should be fixed.  If the DRC says 2 layers then it

shouldn't show you 16 options for layers.

    Cheers,

    James.

Use the command "SET USED_LAYERS" to mask away all unwanted layers.

I have set up a script file to do this for two- or four-layer boards so

I don't need to type all wanted layers each time I start a new design.

Thanks, that fix is simple and works.  The issue was only annoying, not functional.

I attached the script that I use to set up layers and views. It was renamed

to a .txt filext for easy viewing with a text viewer. You should be able to

pick it apart and delete what you don't want to use. When done, rename to a

.scr and put in your scripts directory. Always a good idea to never send

anything as a .scr which can as easily be a virus.
