Viewing gerber files

JimD1

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the method of how to view gerber files in Viewmate or

GC-Prevue.  Doing a straight import of the RS274X gerbers into both software

packages produces strange results, like mirroring of middle layer of 4 layer

PCB.

Best regards,

Jim

You may want to verify that you do not have "Mirror" checked in the cam

processor. It can be set for each tab.

Yep, I never had GC-Preview mirror layers on its own.

Gerbers generated by the CAM processor will import fine into Viewmate.

Its more convenient if you move the gerbers to a separate directory

and then do an import->directory in Viewmate.   This will save you from

importing the individual layer files one at a time.

They also import fine to GC-prevue.

BTW, there were several reports about Viewmate incorrectly displaying

something - with GC working correct on the same files.

What you can do in GC-Preview is highlight all the files you want to

import via CTRL-LeftClick. Once imported and the colors are adapted to

something less gross than pink and chartrouse store a *.gwk file in the

same Gerber directory. That allows fast opening when you quickly want to

    look something up.

I just wish any of the Gerber viewers had a transparent option so I

don't have to constantly hide/unhide layers. That can give carpal tunnel

syndrome. I think it was gerbv under Linux that does this but in

transparent mode it is very sluggish.

For all you out there that doesnt already know, I recommend trying Macaos

for gerber viewing (free after registration).
