Pads

autodeskguest

Hi again,

Sorry for the newbie question but I'm really at my wit's end.

I would like to change the diameter of the pads to the passive components on

the already routed board image but the CHANGE command won't let me, even if

the Pads layer is active. All I get is a rude noise, even while the status

bar tells me to left-click on the component I want to change.

Also, it would make my life a lot easier if I could duplicate a section of

the board elsewhere on the same board without having to do it in the

schematic editor. Imagine 2 channels of a stereo system placed side by side

with interconnecting circuitry routed manually. This would look neater, not

to mention making trouble-shooting a lot easier on the actual physical

hardware.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,

Martin

Very welcome news! Please make it simple, like clicking Info, clicking

on the pad, getting a dialog box, then changing values right there. With

a command-line alternative of course image

    We are also thinking about

implementing a way of "cutting off" edges from pads, as shown

in the attached image (which is a fake - this feature is not yet

    implemented image.

Very neat idea. Will this be manual or integrated with the autorouter? I

can see many challenges with autorouting this way: how many edges can be

cut off? what's the minimum pad area that can be left? do elongated pads

    get special treatment?

If you're working on pads in general, please consider simplifying the

processes of placing via-in-pad and generating tented vias. Yes,

"there's a ULP for that" but the ULP approach will always be poorer than

    the built-in approach.

See, this is what you get for answering feature requests, more requests image

Thanks Klaus! Great news!  I like to think we are agreeing ot disagree.

Everyone wants a better program, we all have the same end and we're all here

to help each other. That's how I see it.

    Andrew,

It's a non sequitur. You're talking about learning a program and I'm talking

about facility and flexibility in the utilization of a program that results

    in a final product.

We can learn how to get the most out of a program  through the channels

within the program or we can make a better program that allows us to achieve

the same end more efficiently. Learning the most efficent way to use a

program and making a program more efficient are two different things.
