"Negative space" text

Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

I downloaded a Eagle board for a Single Sided Serial Arduino. When I

clicked the ratsnest button to calculate the polygon fills, there

appeared "negative space" text. the best way to describe it is that it

looked like the text vectors (and the space it would occupy) was

subtracted from the pour. How can I duplicate this for my projects?

Not trying to break any rules, but here is a link to a screen capture of

the result.

I got a reply on another forum that the designed used a proportional

font on the bRestrict layer for this effect. Hope I'm not the only one

that learned a new trick image

It is best not to use proportional text for any for copper or silk

layer. But thinking about it I see that in case of Restrict layer

subtracted from a polygon it should be wysiwyg and be OK.

Also to get tighter fills use a smaller polygon with the correct rank

covering the text with zero clearance. You should have the width set to

    your board house DRC minimum.

Don't forget to watch for potential ground loops depending on where your

text is located and what kind of currents and frequencies you have running

around your board...  If you have the text (positive or negative) near an

edge, it doesn't hurt to have it close enough to keep from pouring around

all four sides of the text...

    cheers,

    ..dane
