Special Pin One

I have indicated in the design rules that I want pin 1 on DIP packages to be

square.  I have saved this one change in the default design rule file, and I

have loaded it in my test board editor screen.  But nothing happens.  Is

this supposed to automatically produce a square pin on all library DIP

parts?  What am I doing wrong?

Eagle is pretty darn mind numbing....

Also, is the DRC just guidance, or will it actually change things like

distance from board edge?  I have to frequently place pads and traces pretty

close to the board edge.  I do not mind it showing me I have violated the

rule, but I sure do not want it changing anything!

There are options in the DRC dialog about this.  The default is probably

"as in library", which is why you don't see anything.  It's probably better

to make this change in the library anyway.  Overriding things after a

package has been designed is a kludge.

Try reading the manual instead of blaming the tool.

    Yes.
