Text logo on layer 1

blewis999
blewis999 over 15 years ago

I have tried to use the import-bmp.ulp that takes a bit map and places

it on layer 200 and 201 but my results were poo. I could not get a a

black and white (2 bit) color map from the font/screen capture/

conversion. It seems that Windows adds a lot of grey tones to edges to

get the fonts; even though I only used black and white in the text.

Does anyone know a better way to create a logo, or even just text, or

to overcome the grey/non black and white pixel problems.

Thanks

Robert

Use an image processing software to reduce the image to 1 bit per pixel

    (b/w) before importing.

Thank you for the reply; can you recommend any free software that does

this please? I haven't worked with this type of software.

    I use GIMP for this.

It is free and works well but also has a lot of other features.

Maybe too many if that is all that you are going to do.

Paint in Windows can save-as black/white bmp. Might be ok.

You do not use the saved file, but need to save it anyway, to make the

    conversion.

As Christen already noted, even Paint can do that.

There are /many/ free software packages for image processing:

examples are Paint.Net, FastStone, IrfanView, GIMP, ...

Pick one that fits your needs and is comfortable. I prefer FastStone,

but for more complicated things I also use two different (commercial)

software packages - you probably heard of Photoshop before (which is one

    of them)...

P.S. Please fix your quoting order. Thanks.

I, too, am trying to create a Logo on a board using "import-bmp.ulp",

however I keep getting an error message saying that the BMP has more than

256 gray levels. That's impossible. I used GIMP to posterize it to 1-bit

(black & white). I also tried setting the threshold to 2, and that didn't

    work either.

Enough other folks here seem to not have a problem. What could I be doing

    wrong?

    Ron

Attach your .bmp and we can have a look to see if there is an issue with it.

I figured it out. Even though I only had 2 colors in MSPaint, unless you

specifically set it to B&W (Image/Attributes/Black & White) , you get some

flag that tells the world it isn't. After doing that, it imported fine!

    Thanks for your interest!
