CAM processing

Hi,

Having trouble figuring out what layers to include for a CAM job. I'm

used to protel and am trying to learn eagle. I use 4PCB (advanced circuits)

for proto boards. When I do a CAM job for a 4 layer board i ma select the

gerber 274 4 layer job but all i get is two files. Any guidance here would

be appreciated.

Thanks

Pat

I think maybe you click on "Process Section" button instead of "Process

    Job".

    Pat,

Look in this newsgroup for a thread called "CAM file types".  I posted a

cam file on March 21st that we use in house for a 4-layer board.  You

can delete "Section=" lines out of the top to accommodate a 2-layer

board using a garden variety text editor like emacs, vim, kwrite or

    notepad (not word).

It expects a drill file that you'll have to produce with "run drillcfg"

Advanced Circuits likes the output, so it must be good.

    Enjoy,

        - Chuck

    Hello Pat,

If you're adding sections to a CAM job with the ADD button, it creates a

new section and tab, copying all the stuff from the adjacent tab...

including the output file name.  My most common mistake when making new CAM

jobs was forgetting to change this and getting the output file from the

first section overwritten by the next.

    Cheers,

    Alex

You may be making the same mistake I made just a couple of weeks ago.

When you select a "job" it is a CAM file, not the board or schematic.

Select the CAM job that you want (AC likes the Gerber274x that I am

using) and add the sections that you want.

Run it and you will get a file for each section.

A helpful person here suggested naming each section with something

useful, like SECTION_NAME_TOPCOPPER, etc.  I found that to be a very

easy way to keep track of which file is which.

I sure hope that this is helpful to you as I have received much good

help here and it sure would be nice to add some myself.

    Hi Pat,

    Hope you are doing well.

If you look at section 9.4 in the EAGLE manual, you will find a short

list of the gerber file types you can generate to have you're board

made. If your board has some extra layers not covered by CAM job

GERB274-x 4 layer, then you can simply add sections following the guides

    in the manual.

For example let's say you need to get the stencil layer output for your

board house. Then take GERB274-x 4 layer add a section called maybe

    "layer1 stencil" or something descriptive.

Make sure that Output is set to GERBERS274-x then put the appropriate

    extension in the File field.

For more details you can see the manual.

    Hope this helps.
