How can I edit a component (SMD resistor) after sending to the bottom side in the board view via the middle mouse button?

I seem completely unable to edit the component after I send it to the bottom layer - I can't delete it, move it, or even group it - is the bottom layer "locked" somehow, or can I switch to that view? is there any way to group a bottom-layer component with a top-layer component?
