Hobbyist upgrade from v7.7 to v8

nmccloud

So I'm prompted by the software to upgrade when I launch this morning and I've now lost an hour of my life trying to figure out what's going on.

If I install v8.0.2, will I be able to use it as is, no fuss no muss, or do I then need to subscribe?

    Hi,

No, it's free, if you have the free version.

The subscription button is a offer for you if you like to buy it.

Then you have to go to Autodesks web site and make a contract.

You can also buy by an distributor in your town.

The software comes downloadable as a full version but the registering key comes as "free version".

So you can beginn with your projects immediately.

    Gerald

I don't have the free version, I have the paid for hobbyist version but I don't know if I will have to subscribe if I install the update I'm being prompted about.

    Hi Nick,

I hope you're having a good day. The hobbyist license you paid for only

applies to the V7 series of releases, it won't work on the new update

    you are being prompted about.

To get similar features to what you had before you would subscribe to

the Standard version of EAGLE for $100/year or $15/month. You get 4

layers instead of 6 but on the upside the board size limitation is area

    based (160cm^2) instead of the fixed 160mm x 100mm.

You can continue to use V7 without issue, that one is a perpetual

license for the V7 series. If you like the new features in V8 then I

would encourage you to consider the subscription.

We released V8.1.0 today, which adds obstacle avoidance to the routing

engine. Full push and shove is on its way.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Hi Nick,

I hope you're having a good day. Pricing is handled by a totally

separate department at Autodesk. I've been told to direct any pricing

    questions to that department.
