How do I find the upgrade price?

AnalogNotes
AnalogNotes over 13 years ago

I bought all three professional modules about three years ago (version 5.6), and I'm just trying to get an idea of what the upgrade price is so I have an idea of whether I want to go through the process.

I went to http://www.cadsoftusa.com/shop/pricing/ and then clicked on the "EAGLE Upgrade" link, but that takes me to a page that says "Upgrade system under maintenance".  It's been that way for weeks.  I've sent several emails in and I finally got a reply to one, but all she did was ask for my serial number, which I didn't have handy because I was at work and my EAGLE license was at home.  I replied to the message, but haven't heard back.

All I want to know is what the upgrade price is.  Why is it so hard to get that little piece of information?

Sigh,

Doug

    Hi Doug

Right now I would not entertain upgrading to v6, it is seriously in need of

many fixes (and that;'s my politically correct answer!). I would upgrade

your v5.6  to the final version v5.12, at no cost. There have been a few

enhancements after 5.7  that are worth having. Even when you subsequrently

go with v6 you may want v5 for a while to handle your v5 files which have a

different  file structure.thus avoiding  them being converted to v6 should

you open them with that version.

Try this for the upgrade pricing info

    http://www.eaglecentral.ca/eagle/eagle-v6-license-upgrade/eagle-v6-professional-upgrade?product=1&d=1

Thanks Warren!  And thanks to whoever runs eaglecentral.ca!

I feel sort of silly now, making a stink trying to find the upgrade price, then finding out that it's $549 and thinking that's a pretty stiff price for what seems to be mainly a storage format change.  Looking more closely at the new features, I suppose it might be different for me if I used BGA packages or did high speed stuff, but since I make DIY kits, most of the new features don't seem applicable to what I do.  (I'm mainly interested in the assembly variants and the XML format...)

I already downloaded the newer version of EAGLE 5, I was just posting the 5.6 as a reference for when I originally purchased...

    Thanks again!

    Regards,

    Doug

If you bought a copy of V5.xx in the late summer/fall 20111, you were

supposedly qualified for a free upgrade to V6....of course no such

notification has been sent (email, letter, posting, etc) & there is no

longer any mention of it on Cadsoft website...gives it the appearance of

    being bogus.

$550 is quite a high price for just an upgrade..that's almost like buying

the product all over again!!...is that how to show support for those who

have supported the product for many years?  Usually an upgrade is a

fraction of the original price.  However, I guess most companies can afford

it & Eagle does cost less than many competitive products.

Yes, it's tough to put a value on these things.  $550 is basically a third of the new cost of version 6.  I think that's a bit much for what you get as a customer, but I'm sure there was a significant cost in converting the program to the XML format and the programming has to be paid for...

As a comparison, I also use TurboCAD, and the upgrade price from version 15 to version 18 is $450, and there are some *significant* upgrades for that price.  If I had been keeping up with upgrades, the cost from version 17 to 18 would only be $200...

    Regards,

    Doug

    Hi Hoyt,

It's still valid, please contact Cadsoft Computer to get your corrected

license. The cutoff date was September 1,2011 if you bought before then

you'll have to pay the upgrade fee.

    Hi Dough,

I strongly recommend DO NOT upgrade to 6.x!! I have upgraded and after 4weeks of wasted time I am just now going back to 5.11 (5.12)  even though I am losting all work made in 6.x. We will see after next buxfix ubgrade is issued, byt 6.0 and 6.1 in my opinion brings much more problems and bugs than the advantages (only few minor improvements).
