Autorouting 4 layer board - 8 hours and still going

Hi All...

 

I was havig trouble routing a board, even by hand, as a 2 layer board. The board has a lot of parts so I can understand there were 43 air wires (mostly grounds). Just as a test, I told it to route as a 4 layer board. In the DRC I set layers to (1*2+15*16). Int he auto-route dialog I set layers 1,2,15 and 16 to * and vias to 6. This is Eagle Standard.

 

I started the auto router well over 8 hours ago, and its still running. This can't be normal is it?  Did I do something wrong?

    It can easily take that long on a dense board if the routing grid is set

    very small. Also examine the costs of vias and the like. You may be

    asking for multiple miracles/
