using wire tool vs. net tool

Hello, I have just started using Eagle Version 5.12.0 for Linux light and also have it installed on my XP-PRO laptop.

I have watched a few on line videos and noticed that in one tutorial the wire tool was used to make connections

and another tutorial used the net tool. So, which should I use and what are the issues? I thought I read something about

the wire tool did not make actual connections(?).

Also, while I have created a simple schematic and experimented with using the board layout, I noticed that when using

a part from the library (7805 regulator in this case) that the outline of the part is displayed. I am wondering if there is some

option to turn that off? It sort of looks like it is silk screen? What I wanted was to just display the mounting holes for the

thru hole part on the board layout. It will be awhile before I am ready to actually attempt a board.

Hopefully I have explained correctly.image

I am looking forward to using Eagle to build some of my small projects vs. hand wiringimage

Thanks in advance.

Use the net tool for making interconnects between circuit elements when

    drawing your schematic.

The part outline you mentioned is probably located in the tPlace layer

so if you turn that layer off the outline will go away.    When you get

to making gerber output you can edit the CAM processor job to tell it

what to include/omit from the silkscreen layer.   Understand however

that if you don't include tPlace in the silk screen output then NONE of

the part outlines (and possibly other stuff) will get included.

As always...its a good idea to make liberal use of the on-line help that

comes with Eagle as well as the manual pdf that gets installed along w/

Eagle.   These references will give you excellent detail on what you may

or may not have seen in one of the online video tutorials.

    Have fun w/ Eagle
