Framework drawing in board layout

Former Member
Former Member over 13 years ago

All,

Previously, using PADS, I could import a framework from the library to the board layout, onto a particular layer. When it came time to produce an assembly drawing, I could slect the framework layer, board outline, top silkscreen, add some text and I'd have an assembly drawing. I can only find a way of adding a framework to the schematic page in Eagle. Any ideas//

Thanks,

Cam

The framework library has both symbol frameworks (for the schematic) and

corresponding packages for the board editor (although I notice the symbols

don't always match the packages in appearance). You use the ADD icon in

either case. The Cadsoft frames in the board editor seem to be on layer 48

'Document'. Do you have that layer turned on?

Personally, I created my own frame library and defined company-standard

frames for both the schematic and board editors, using user-defined (>100)

layers. Do it once, and you never have to do it again until you switch

    companies.

PADS. Ugh. I used that at a previous employer. I hated that program,

although I do miss the heirarchical schematics.

    Thanks Bob,

I tried adding a frame to my layout, but as soon as I click add and try and drag it over, it pulls up my schematic. I guess really I only tried one particular frame, but it had no pcb element...
