EAGLE -- scan in written signature?

Former Member
Former Member over 12 years ago

First let me start off by saying I have no idea where to start off with this (or if it's even possible) but here goes:

We had a neat idea here in my lab. I'm the resident maker of PCBs, and we use EAGLE 6.3 to generate files in the Gerber format, which our in-house prototyper accepts and then (after calculating toolpaths and some other wizardry) the prototyper carries out the movements and out pops a nice milled and drilled PCB. I trust we're all on the same page here.

Now the question is: I author all kinds of PCBs, so why can't I leave my mark on it? Think Rembrandt on any one of his pieces. Is there any way anyone can figure I could:

1. Scan in my own signature

2. Translate it into a package of some sort in an EAGLE library

3. Add that "part" as it were to a layout

4. And leave my mark on my PCBs?

Any and all assistance is much appreciated. And for you, I give you this cat .gif: https://i.chzbgr.com/completestore/12/10/15/XzUCXuHmnkWKX3ssBUqdRA2.gif

    Hi Michael,

Use the import-bmp.ulp to import a bitmap image into your design. This

is the only image format EAGLE can import. You can access the ULPs by

typing run in the command line.

You can import the logo into a package in the library and place it on

    your board whenever you want.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Hi Michael,

It's not quite that easy.  The import-bmp.ulp will import small rectangles

to approximate the image.  However, and the instructions are clear about

this, it is not intended to be left that way.  If you are trying to get the

image into silk screen this won't work as the dots are individual items

that are generally filtered out during manufacturing.  The dots are

intended to be a guide to use other primitives (lines, arcs, rectangles,

circles, ...) in order to hand draw the same image.  To save some time

consider using a polygon for more complex shapes, just make the width

something small, but not zero, like 0.001".  Zero width polygons give you

    trouble in various places.

Of course, the large amount of small dots work fine in a schematic though

it does tend to make the file size very large.

This can be done but it is tedious, especially if you want a few different

sizes of the same image for different boards.  But I have done it on a few

    occasions with good results.

It would be better if there was some sort of scalable vector import.  But

I've never seen anything like that before.

    Cheers,

    James.

Hi, this may help. It allows you to have custom text, shapes, images.
