A Few Questions about using Eagle for a beginner

Former Member

Hi,

I recently started using eagle so I apologize if my questions have obvious answers. I was hoping someone could answer a few questions.

1. When hooking up a power supply should all of the Gnd be on the same supply net (all of the gnd components and place to attach battery have symbol "->") or does the place that the battery connects have "-l" symbol and everything else has "->" symbol? And the same for VCC.

2. When routing manually how do I switch between the top and bottom layers? If I am routing across the top and place a via how do I then change the router to go across the bottom?

3. When routing how do I change the router so that it moves in diagonal directions to avoid making right angles? ex / direction instead of L?

I really appreciate your help.

Not entirely sure what this question is about, but here's my best shot

at it. In EAGLE we have supply symbols which are in the supply1 and the

supply2 libraries. So let's say you place a GND symbol on your

schematic, if you place another GND symbol on your schematic these two

are automatically connected even if there is no net between them. You

would do something similar with the supply rails.

    2. When routing manually how do I switch between the top and bottom layers? If I am routing across the top and place a via how do I then change the router to go across the bottom?

Never pre-place a via. Via can be placed as you route saving you the

hassle of having to preplace them. As you route you can transition

between layers by clicking your Mouse scroll wheel as if were a button.

The next time you left-click EAGLE will place a via at the transition.

    3. When routing how do I change the router so that it moves in diagonal directions to avoid making right angles? ex / direction instead of L?

Right click while routing allows you to cycle through all of the WIRE

bend styles. One of them sticks to 45 degree diagonals.

    I really appreciate your help.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia
