Beginners PinHead library question

donrecardo
donrecardo over 11 years ago

Hi

I need to place 12 pinhead connectors in a 4 x 3 matrix with 0.1 inch between pins in each direction

I thought it might be simple just place three 1x4 pinhead parts in rows with each row 1/10th of an inch apart

but I tried that and the pads on the 1 x 4 are so big that each row overlaps the next

If I only wanted 8 pins in two rows of 4 it would be fine because the 2x4 pinhead part has much smaller pads

I am guessing I am going to need to modify the library to make the pads on the 1x4 part smaller, just like on the 2x4

Can somebody walk me through the process please of how to change the pads in a way a beginner would understand

Regards

Don

You mean that the pads are to big in the board or the library?

    You didn't mention it.

Check the library. If the pads are ok for you and they are only too big

in your board then check the restring settings in your design rules (DRC).

If the pads are too big in the library already then copy that part or

the library into a new library and edit the part THERE.

Do not edit the eagle libraries.

And it would be better for understanding if you mention the part and the

    library name next time.

Hi Joern and thanks for the reply

I will try to rephrase my question better and give the information you needed that I missed off.

The Library that the parts are in is called pinhead

The part I am trying to use is called  PINHD-1X4

It is a strip of 4 pin connectors in a line with 0.1 inch between pins

There is a similar part in the same library and its called PINHD-2X4

This part is two strips of 4 pins side by side ,

Now if you go to the library and click on each of those parts and look at the picture of its package

you will see the PINHD-2X4 has small round pads  but the PINHD-1X4 has large oval pads .

The pads are so large that if I place two of the PINHD-1X4 parallel to each other with 0.1 inch between the parts

so that it looks like the PINHD-2X4 part then the pads are so big they overlap each other

This is a problem because I need to place 3 pieces of the PINHD-1X4 together to make what would be  I suppose a PINHD-3X4 if it existed

So yes you are right  What I need to do is take a copy of the PINHD-1X4 and modify it to have the same size pads as the PINHD-2X4

and that is what I was trying to say in my post

Can anyone give me a step by step explanation of how I do this , explained in a ,open this, click that , choose this type of format that even

a beginner like me can follow.

    Hope someone can help
