    In the Control panel

    Right click on Libraries

A search bar will open at the bottom

    Enter LM317*

Click Next Next Next... until you spot what you are after.

Some of the results have multiple packages so make sure you check then out

Searching is explained in the manual which you will find in the doc folder

    of your installation

In the ADD dialog is a search line at the very  bottom...

    The asterix (*) means all.

Different manufacturer have different identification characters for

their products, like LM or µA etc.

So use the asterix for your search and search "un-sharp" just for the

    number like lm317*.

317 would mean, any characters before and behind 317.

Try that and see what comes out image

In Eagle 7.6.0 it seems to be under the "View" menu, "Search in Tree" (CTRL-F) that opens the Search bar at the bottom of the control panel.

So far, this works best and fastest for me:

    Open a console and enter:

    cd eagledir/lbr

    grep -i lm317 *.lbr
