How is default VIA drill size set?

re: How is default VIA drill size set?

The default VIA drill size appears to be drill #2 in "options" menu, "set",

"drill" tab, .023622 (apparently a rounded .6 mm). Which, sadly, is

smaller than the default DRC "sizes" tab, "minimum drill". (Changing the

option in the "drill tab" doesn't seem to change the VIA drill size.)

Where in Eagle is the default VIA drill size set?

    Halo,

I would like to setup the default via parameter. How could this be accomplished?

So my last discoveries appear to be the stuff of dreams, a tale told by an

idiot! I think it's something like whatever the CHANGE command did last, or

maybe on Tuesday, is the default. ... For a little while. ... Or

    something....

    -- many regrets

re: Set default VIA drill size with command-line?

    Wed 6/16/2010 1:13 pm

So I've spent the usual 2 days, and the following is what I think I know.

MAKING IT SO YOUR VIAS DON'T GENERATE DRC ERRORS

    1. Place a single VIA in the board editor (type in command-line "via",

Enter, and click somewhere; then click the stop sign). If you then do a

DRC, it will complain about it. If it doesn't complain, you have somehow

magically already fixed it, and you are a superior person!

    2. Then, TYPE in the COMMAND-LINE -- there's probably some other way but I

don't know it -- "change drill .024 in". And click the VIA. (Substitute

whatever drill size you might desire for ".024 in".)

    3. Subsequently, barring sudden barometric changes and/or phase-of-moon

catastrophes, all your VIAs will have a drill size of .024" instead of

023622". This appears to be true of the current project; when I start a

new project, I get back the .023622" VIA drill size, which violates the

default .024" DRC minimum VIA drill size rule.

If you were so foolish, as I was, to have existing VIAs without this

blessing of mumbo-jumbo, I think you can do something like

(A.) Still in the board editor, click layers, click "None", and then click

the VIAs layer # 18, so only it will show, and click OK. That way you can

see, and more importantly, select and change, existing VIAs. It seems

impossible to do it any other way.

    (B.) Do step #2 above.

(C.) Use the group icon to select all your vias, right-click on it, and

there might be a "change group" among the choices, and that might do that.

    (D.) Afterwards, you might want to get the other layers back;

    exiting/reentering Eagle might work....

    -- good luck!
