First time using EagleCAD with MAC OS

Former Member
Former Member over 15 years ago

Hi,

Please point me any MAC OS UI doc on using EalgeCAD.  I find some

differences between EagleCAD on WINDOWS, which I have been using, and

MAC OS.

When I try to position a component by pressing both the CTRL + ALT

buttons to have finer positioning, I can't position the component with

either the right or left mouse buttons, since both of them will rotate

the component while CTRL + ALT keys are pressed down.  I have to release

the CTRL + ALT keys to stick the component, but it won't stick to the

position I want, since it will align to next grid unit.

Yes, I can't stand the mouse pad. image  It's the worse invention in the

history of computing, thus my using an external mouse.

Thanks for any tips.

    HI

I use Eagle on Mac OS X all the time, so hopefully I can help you out.

Can you tell us which version of Mac OS X and which version of Eagle you have?

First of all, regardless as to which mouse you are using, Mac OS may require some configuration.

On the Mac, go to System Preferences, and clock on Mouse - the options you now see which depend on which mouse you have.

Make sure that the functions for left click and right click are set to Primary Button and Secondary Button respectively.

Next, if you are using the Apple Mighty Mouse you should be aware that it is sometimes very picky about where you click on its surface - I often find myself rotating a part instead of placing it, and vice versa. The solution is to click only at the extreme edges of the mouse surface. (Non apple mighty mouse users will find this amusing!!)

Finally, please forgive me for stating the obvious, but make sure you are pressing ALT and not ctrl since to a Mac a ctrl+click is the same as a right-click.

Thank you VERY much!  I am glad you stated the obvious.  I did use ALT,

BUT, being so used to WINDOWS (and my 1st month with MAC), I simply

click the ALT key.  That's not correct of me to do. I have to click the

function (fn) key + the Option key to get the ALT key!

    Thanks so much for responding.

I did set my mouse to have the primary button as the left button.
