How to Import(?) .stp f iles

mprowe@peritonlane.net

Hi,

When ordering components from Farnell.com, many are listed with related

support.

One of the support files is described as: "CAD Multiple Formats (????.??KB)

EN".

Checking with their on-line support folk, they tell me that they are

definitely Eagle library files.

Unpacking, the downloaded file it seems to be a text file with a .stp

extension.

Can anyone tell me how to process these file to produce a .lbr that I can

use?

Best regards, Martin

    Hi Martin,

This is actually a 3D model and EAGLE can't use that. It seems the

on-line support folk have been mistaken. The EAGLE library file from

farnell is usually derlivered as a .scr file when you unzip it.

If you have a .scr file, all you have to do is open the library you

    want

the file to be in and then click on the Script icon. Browse to the .scr

file and double click. BAM!! The part is in your library.

    Best Regards,

    Jorge Garcia

    Thanks Jorge,

    Understood.

    Regards, Martin

The general rule on lib's has been never trust anything you get from

    any

source. You should check with the data sheet. This usually takes as

    long

or longer then just making the components and verify them your self.

Verify with 1:1 test printout and placing the real part on it as

sometimes the package suffix info is hard to match up with the package

    documentation.

You also need to customize the pad sizes to your soldering process.

    Paul

    Thank you Paul,

Yes, I understand the caveats, but the question was ...

"How to convert an .stp (3d design file) into an Eagle PCB .lbr file".

    I guess I will need a 3rd party product?

    Best regards Martin
