Finding disconnected nets

Former Member

I have some disconnected nets that are so small I can't find them.

Being new to this tool, I assumed I could highlight them with SHOW,

but I can't see anything highlighted. So I tried to use the LABEL

command from the text entry window, but I can't find a syntax that

does not give an error. I tried changing the width of the net, nothing

changed. I am really stumped. How do you find small disconnected nets

and delete them? I know their names from the rules check, so there

must be some simple command to just delete them.

What you're referring to is commonly called "air wires".  I, too, have

    run into this problem.

Under most circumstances, to route a signal, you select Edit->Route

(Alt-E, R on linux), then click somewhere close to the desired air wire.

Many times, air wires can be so small that they are not readily

visible, so you don't really know where to click to find them.

The fix for this is in the settings.  Try:

    Options->Set->Misc

and change the "Catch factor" to 100%.  It defaults to 5%.

Now, no matter where you click on the board, Eagle will grab the closest

air wire and start to route it.

    Hope this helps.

    Enjoy,

        - Chuck

If you get a little sloppy and don't route a net all the way to the

official coordinate of a pad (get a beep), then you can occasionally get

very short nets.  If this is happening to you "many" times, then you need

to pay more attention during routing.

However, there is a really easy fix for this short airwires that are all

within pads of that net.  Just run the autorouter.  It will find them all

and add the very short traces to resolve the airwires.  Since these are all

inside pads, it won't result in any actual copper changes.
