Via annular ring not seen

Hello,

 

please bear with me, I am new to Eagle.

 

Let's say we have a 2 layer board. A via is supposed to consist of a

vertical plated hole and two horizontal outer annular rings on the top and

bottom layers. These rings connect the plated hole of a via to the wiring.

My PCB manufacturer requires all vias to have annular rings on both outer

layers otherwise they treat it as a non plated hole.

In layout editor when I place a via I can see a green rectangle and an inner

circle showing the hole.

Problem: when I display  layer 1 and 16 (top and bottom, by switching of all

other layers including layer 18, vias) I can see NO annular rings around

vias, i.e. my PCB manufacturer will treat it as a non plated hole.

    It won't show up there.  When you run the CAM processor, the section

    that is generated for the top copper layer should include layers Top,

    Pads, and Vias (layers 1, 17, and 18).  Then when you view the gerber

    file with an external viewer (gerbv on linux), you will see that all

    these layers have been logically OR'ed.  i.e. it is a union of all three

    Eagle layers.

     

    i.e. my PCB manufacturer will treat it as a non plated hole.

     

    Since your PCB manufacturer works from the gerber file, they will be

    happy with it.

    Simple newbie misunderstanding. You have turned off layer 18 so you're

    not showing the vias. The annular ring is part of the via, so not

    showing vias means you've asked Eagle not to show you what you're

    interested in. Turn layer 18 back on.

     

    Your PCB manufacturer will probably want Gerber files. When you are

    ready to generate them, you'll find that the top and bottom copper

    Gerbers include layers 17 and 18.
