What are these layers for?

e14 Contributor over 15 years ago

I have not found any documentation describing the use of these layers:

31 tCream

32 bCream

33 tFinish

34 bFinish

35 tGlue

36 bGlue

37 tTest

38 bTest

47 Measures

48 Document

49 Reference

51 tDocu

52 bDocu

97 Info

98 Guide

I believe that Eagle does not really use them.  Are they for whatever

purpose we want?

Thanks for the info.  My question has finally been answered.

    Thanks again,

    Robert

Thank you all for your replies. However, my question is still

unanswered. It is obvious that the Cream layers are for cream, and Glue

layers are for glue. But what are cream and glue used for? What are the

Finish layers for? Are they for components made in Finland? The layer

names Document, Reference, Docu and Info seem redundant. What are they

for and how are they different? How about the Guide layer? Will it guide

me through the layer names better than Help Layer did?

    Thank you,

    Robert

    Hi Robert,

Maybe this will help, the cream layers are used to make a stencil which

allows solder paste to be squeegied on to your board. EAGLE creates

features on this layer for SMD components only.

EAGLE doesn't place anything on the finish layers by default. In certain

cases (Medical applications come to mind) you'll want all or part of

your board finished in Gold or some other material. That is what this

    layer is for.

EAGLE doesn't place anything on the glue layers by default. This layer

is used to define spots on the board where glue need to be placed to

hold down a component while it goes through the manufacturing process.

The test layers are not used by default, and they could be used for any

special testing features you might want to include on your board.

The remaining layers are for documentation purposes and you can pretty

much use them as you like.

    hth,

    Jorge Garcia

This is not a Eagle problem, but rather that you don't seem to understand

how PC boards are made.  There are probably descriptions of the process on

the net somewhere.  Once you underestand that, the layers will make more

sense.  Also keep in mind that some of these layers are very rarely used.

They are for historical or special purposes.

    Finland?

Of course not.  That would be Finnish, not Finish.

    Hi Robert,

    They do have purposes.

Tcream is the top paste layer, Glue is the glue layer etc.

The help file can give more complete descriptions.

There are user defined layers also.
