How to install Eagle 5 on Debian?

Former Member
Former Member over 14 years ago

How should i install Eagle 5 (system wide if possible) on Debian?

I tried this way:

_________________________________________________

  1. wget ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/program/5.11/eagle-lin-5.11.0.run

  2. checkinstall eagle-lin-5.11.0.run

checkinstall 1.6.2, Copyright 2009 Felipe Eduardo Sanchez Diaz Duran

This software is released under the GNU GPL.

The package documentation directory ./doc-pak does not exist.

Should I create a default set of package docs?  :

Preparing package documentation...OK

      • No known documentation files were found. The new package

      • won't include a documentation directory.

*****************************************

        • Debian package creation selected ***

*****************************************

.

.

.

.

Installing with eagle-lin-5.11.0.run...

========================= Installation results ===========================

/var/tmp/tmp.dCDqw6xmHT/installscript.sh: 4: eagle-lin-5.11.0.run: not found

        • Installation failed. Aborting package creation.

Cleaning up...OK

Bye.

End of my screenlog

Any hints? On debian its important to build a .deb first. Else it

could mess up my system and i can never uninstall eagle again.

So the example with sh on the website is quite dangerous.

Any hints for debian?

Kind regards,

I know that Ubuntu does it, but I don't know how.

There is no problem in running the file eagle-lin-5.11.0.run.

Set it as executable and start it. It simply extracts all files

from the archive and copies them into the an EAGLE folder.

    Hi!

There are native Debian packages of Eagle

      http://packages.debian.org/eagle

Simply add the non-free archive to your sources.list (if its not already

there) and install it with your package manager.

    Bye

Works like a charm. Now i will get even automatic updates and

    can remove the package.

Cadsoft should make a hint for it on the download page.

    Thank you,
