DRC error ("drill size") even though min.   drill = drill size

Strange situation here, maybe some of you can help. A coworker has a very

fine pitch board (0.5mm pitch BGA) and are using 6mil and 8mil drills. In

our DRC check we have minimum drill size set to 6mil, yet still it gives a

"drill size" error during DRC for all of the 6mil drills, but none for the

8mil drills.

With as much as I would be embarrassed, I'm hoping there's something very

simple that we're overlooking. image

thanks!

This happens to me all the time -- check your Net Classes. The DRC will

report violations of net classes rules but won't tell you that that's

    where they came from.

ARGHH!!!  Yes you were exactly correct.  net class settings. I never even

suspected to look there because this particular board has no special net

    class settings, just "default."

So why then does the "default" net class setting not follow the "global

DRC" setings? To me that's what "default" would indicate-- the global

settings. And then additional net class settings would deviate from the

    'global' setting.

Is that a bug, or "by design?"

    thanks so much Andrew!

Net classes effectively  follow the DRC, for that net class item, if that

net class setting is made '0'

If not zero the setting of the net class is considered and the highest value

(net class or DRC) is used.

Search 'net class' in the manual.

It's not the word 'default' that triggers the use of DRC value but rather

    the '0' setting.

If you change any net class setting away from the 'default' of all zeros

then its not 'default' anymore and so the name should be changed also.

I guess it could be argued  that one should be compelled to create a new

    name at this time.

    Regards

    Warren

Ah. Must have been a carryover from a previous design-- the values were not

set to "0" like in other new designs. I will have them change the values to

0mil and then play around with the settings to make sure it starts

following the default DRC menu settings.

    thanks for the tips, warren!
