Any news on when Eagle 6 will be released?

I can't speak officially for CadSoft but as a long-time user and

distributor I can offer some insight.

At Stratford Digital we've had online upgrading for over 2 years for simple

upgrades!  f you're in North America you can upgrade EAGLE Standard online

at

and EAGLE Professional at

For more complicated upgrades (i.e. adding modules or extra users at the

same time) just email us and we can get that done pretty quickly.  Just

send me a quick email and I'll be happy to send you an email that you can

pay online or over the phone.

I haven't heard any official restatement of the release date.  In the past,

CadSoft would push off the release date to ensure quality of the software.

I can't say what the new policy will be with new ownership.  They aren't

going to ship complete crap obviously but it remains to be seen if they can

take a short term hit in one financial quarter for the sake of software

quality.  Most publicly traded companies do not (some might argue cannot)

make that choice.

As for cost of upgrade, historically there has been a point in time where

buying a new license would give you a free upgrade to the shortly to be

released version (in this case buy EAGLE 5 license and get upgrade to EAGLE

6 for free).  However, this had traditionally for new licenses.  Upgrades

do cost more, though not proportionally more.  On the upgrade pages above

you can see the different in cost between 4.0 and 4.1 upgrades to EAGLE

5--that will give you an idea of what has been done.  I cannot speak as to

what CadSoft's final pricing will be, only what has been done in the past.
