HI,
I have a few PCB's do design very soon that require a REAL FONT drawn
on the SILK LAYER that my client will see.
Its a board thats basically a panel with connectors and all tracks
are on the reverse side, the mask colour will be BLACK, and the SILK
will be white. I need to label the connectors with a suitable font
other than the built in eagle font. eg ARIAL BOLD from the mac
systems fonts
The built in EAGLE FONT is not suitable for this as it looks to
"MACHINE" like,
Q1) What are my options for placing TEXT in a layer that can produce
these fonts. i.e arial.
Hi Dave
I would be inclined to do the following. I have just tried this and it works
pretty well.
You will be importing all your text, correctly positioned, as an image.
Complete the physical design of your board
Add your text labels as required using the Proportional font as this will
give you a better impression of the finished look.
Put this text on a new user layer so you do not accidentally include it in
the Gerber.
Once the look is good, turn off all the layers but leave showing your text
and the board outline.
Export an image of the board and take a note of the resolution used as you
will need it later. (150dpi and Full works well)
In another application, replace the text with text of the desired font
Save this image as a mono bitmap.
Then import this image into your board with Eagle with import-bmp.ulp.
Select dpi and enter the values you used earlier (150 dpi and FULL)
Then you need to line up the text so turn off all layers except the one you
imported into
GROUP all
Turn on Dimension layer and move the group so the board outlines align.
On the imported Text layer delete the board outline and the file name that
occurs at the bottom left.
Up to you whether you leave the text there or move it to tPlace. Probably
just leave it and include that layer in the Gerber for SilkTop
I hope you find the technique useful.
Warren
Hi Warren,
Thanks a pretty clever idea!
It may be the only way to do this, I have a bout 3 or 4 PCB's to design
about A4 in size, that require this kind of printing of the SILK.
I hope version 6 allows the use of other fonts or graphics? at least direct
copy/paste import into its own special layers, this can be made into
gerbers later if desired?
I will keep note of your technique and give it a try.
Thanks
