EAGLE sym ?

One thing I would like to put on a wish list is an analogue/digital simulator to be used with the UBUNTU (Linux) version of EAGLE Light Edition (I could not find one on the web).

The free simulator 'LTSpice IV' from Linear Technology should work well

under Linux: Though this is a native Windows program, it was programmed

with Linux in mind, so that, provided your Linux system has 'wine'

installed, you can run the Windows executable directly under Linux (has

been in use in our institute for some years).

    So. Simulator works. Fine.

Now EAGLE doesn't work together with this simulator, because EAGLE

doesn't have ANY simulation support. This can be remedied by a self-made

ULP, which is not TOO easy, but possible. In our institute, we are able

to do SPICE simulations with a dedicated 'spice' ULP, which takes all

simulation options from the EAGLE user, collects the net list, writes it

to disk and starts the simulator.

So. EAGLE supports LTSpice (or any other simulator for that matter). Fine.

Now you need the correct component simulation models to be able to

simulate things. And THAT's the problem: You can get them very easily

from semiconductor manufacturers, but these very often expressly FORBID

the further distribution of their models.

    Therefore:

      1. You can get the free 'LTSpice' working well under Windows and Linux.

      2. You can get the 'spice' ULP from me for useful EAGLE support.

      3. You must download all component models from their manufacturers

yourself and use a cryptic (but easy and, unfortunately, as yet

undocumented) syntax to make EAGLE recognise them properly. Hmmm.

Shame on the model creators for their restrictive licences...
