Must have DIFFERENT PAD SIZES !!! Urgent help needed!

HI,

 

I have a current board design which requires for one through hole component

( but used 48 times) to have a different pad size for TOP and BOTTOM.

 

I need a through hole pad ROUND that has a 3mm ID and a 5mm OD for the TOP

PAD but with a 8MM OD for the bottom pad and plated in the hole.

 

I have tried using 2 pads, but that just creates the same for top and

bottom, I have tried using the MIRROR check box for a pad, but it does not

save it, or inform you of an error.

 

I have played with RESTRING, but thats too confusing and changes all pads

on a board, I have other devices which don't require this type of pad so

restring is useless.

 

I know that the next release of eagle cad has more options for "unusua"l

pad shapes/sizes, but I need a solution in the next week!

 

I can't believe eagle cad does not cater for this?

PS Can a ULP be written to modify pad sizes ( I dont care what the DRC

tells me)

 

If eagle cad cant do this, I have several other boards that require the

same part, all dues in the next few weeks!! I may have to use ANOTHER CAD

Application!

    Hi Dave

    Nope! V5 cannot do it simply but there is are ways.

     

    If you don't care about DRC errors and are prepared to approve 48-96 errors

    (depends if the trace to that pin is layer 1 or 16.)  then build your

    library part with 8mm filled circle (zero width, layer 16) over the PTH pad

    that needs to be 8mm on the bottom.

    Or alternately try a circles (unfilled)

    Radius = 2.75mm width =2.5mm

    Radius = 3.25mm width 1.5mm

     

    The advantage of the above method:

    (1) The 8mm circle moves with  the part

    (2) You only have to build the library part once

     

    There is another method where you build the 8mm circle as a signal polygon

    on the board each time.

    More disadvantages:

    (1) More labour intensive

    (2) Does not move with the part.

    Advantage

    (1)No DRC errors

     

    A ULP could be built to automatically target the part and add the 8mm

    polygon with the corrrect signal name.

    You would still be left with the problem of the polygon not moving with the

    part.  That would not be an issue if they were added at the last moment.
