Removing components from schematics and board s.

I've started with a working (and consistent) schematic and board. I've been

trimming down the schematic to remove a number of unwanted components, when

I switch to the board view the unwanted  components have been removed

(which is what I want!) but many redundant tracks and lots of unused via's

still remain, am I doing something wrong? Or do I have to do this editing

manually.

    You're not doing anything wrong.  Devices must be deleted in schematic

    (this is the way EAGLE enforces it, I think it helps maintain consistency).

    However, when you delete a device it will only rip up traces in the PCB if

    the entire net is deleted in the schematic.  Otherwise, it doesn't know

    what to do and thus leaves it for your attention (which is the right thing

    to do, IMHO).

     

    So yes, you would then have to go and ripup any traces or trace segments

    that you want to remove.

     

    And if you have polygons you'll have to delete them manually as well, even

    if you delete all the nets associated with it.  HINT:  If you hold down the

    shift key while deleting a polygon segment it will delete the whole polygon

    and not just the segment.
