I would like to suggest a "sub layer". This single layer permanently exists
between the background and the design layers and should not influence the
color rendering of the layers above it.
It would be used to indicate zones of interest, while designing/ULPs, but
not interfere with the colors in the design as Eagle does currently.
Implemented as explained below, the grid remains prominant and the negative
effects from color changes are minimised.
Referring to the attached image, on the left a design has a green rectangle
drawn on a user defined layer. As depicted, currently this alters the color
rendering of the layers above. This is a disadvantage. On the right is how
this suggestion would appear when drawn on the 'sub layer'. The green
rectangle example here is not the best illustration of the effect that can
be gained. Very pleasent effects can be gained from shades closer to
black.
The technique employed would be to calculate the colors as present and then
merge with the 'sub layer', Any pixel that is not black in the design
layers is rendered as is. Black pixels in the design layers would aquire
the color of the pixel in the 'sub layer" (viewed as being between the
design layers and the background).
This coud be implemented with "true view". ie Currently 'bPlace', although
mirrored, does not appear rendered in the correct layer if one imagines
looking down through a transparent board.
