Scroll wheel with Eagle 6 on Mac

Can someone clarify the Magic Mouse gesture behavior in v6.0? I couldn't find it in the help documentation. I really like how you pan using the touch surface, but I haven't been able to figure out how to zoom. I've tried holding the Command key while using a single finger up/down motion and also a two finger up/down gesture, but neither worked. Is it no longer possible to zoom without clicking on the zoom button or using F3? Mind you, I don't want to revert back to the old behavior, as I really prefer being able to pan using the mouse surface, I'd just like to be able to zoom somehow too.

I am not sure how this is considered an acceptable release for V6.0. Without zoom functionality it is totally useless. How could this have been tested on an OS X machine and passed?

I also had problems with this, and the beta mentioned works fine (switches between old=works method and new=doesn't method). However, I'd like to update with new info for Klaus.

Klaus: I finally got around to testing this at work where I HAVE a magic trackpad (external) and it still doesn't work as intended. Two finger swipes on the external multitouch trackpad behave in exactly the same way as two finger swipes on the built-in non-multiouch trackpad (which is, they scroll left/right when the view is zoomed in enough that it doesn't all fit on one screen).

EGAD: Pardon me, just a case of user error. I'm not used to pan/zoom enough. Zoom does work, and pan works once zoomed in enough.

So obviously, the only thing missing from the normal non-multitouch trackpad is zoom. So the switch, as implemented in the beta, is perfect.

Two finger swipes on the Magic Trackpad scroll (or "pan") a scrollable

window left/right and up/down. It's the same as, for instance, in

the Safari browser.

Or am I missing something?

FYI Alex

You post at Element14 which acts as a web portal to nntp 'news.cadsoft.de',

the core (official) forum point.

  'edits' and 'inline' images do not reach the nntp which is the 'goto

place' for cadsoft staff.

So do not 'edit', just reply to your posting and when passing an image, use

the attach method which does get through.

A fix for the 'inline' images is promised soon.

Clearly it's not.  Element14 is run by the owners of Cadsoft and the Eagle

software.  The web forum is a self-contained community with a gateway to

the old NNTP newsgroup.  Neither is more official or "right" than the

other.  Unfortunately the gateway at element14 that tries to translate

forum posts to newgroup messages and vice versa isn't what it could be,

although it has been getting better and there seems to be real commitment

lately by Farnell to make it better.

Alex, there are a lot of old timers who don't like the element14 forums

because it upsets and threatens their world.  The more people use e14 and

the more features get added there, the less relevant the newgroup becomes.

I think they fear that eventually the newgroup will be abandoned as the

vast majority of users abandon it.  That may be a realistic fear, although

there is little technical reason both couldn't exist with a good gateway

inbetween.

Don't let anyone tell you what you should use or that one is more

"official" than the other.  Some of the old time Cadsoft staff prefer the

newsgroup, but implying they won't look at the forums is just a weak

argument to try to elevate the importance of newsgroup over the forum.

Farnell owns Cadsoft now, and of course they own e14.  I really can't

imagine they will allow their Cadsoft division to ignore data that exists

only on the e14 forums.

So continue to do what is most comfortable to you.  Cadsoft is not in a

position to ignore the e14-only users since there are a great many of them.

Keep in mind that the newsgroup exists and that some people therefore may

not get all information posted on e14.  Take that for what it's worth and

how much trouble you're willing to go thru for those people using the

newsgroup feed.  They are a minority, but are also the experienced old

timers for now.  Eventually there will be more experienced people on the

forums, but that seems not to be the case at present.  However, don't let

anyone try to misrepresent the newgroup as being the "official" place or

whatever, or suggest that you are in the wrong place.

If you find this situation uncomfortable, the most productive course of

action is probably to complain to the e14 folks to bring the gateway to the

newgroup to a higher level.

If I hadn't used the one word 'official' then  possibly you would not have

responded with  401 words.

I used 'official' because I recall that was stated  by a CadSoft staffer,

since Element14 kicked off.

Right - I've tried it in 6.0.2, and the legacy mode does seem to work.

Unfortunately, there's still the issues of manual routing and the current bend/via selection not being displayed (which I've curiously not had any feedback from anyone in an official capacity yet)...

This is Jorge, sorry about that. I've actually been trying to figure out

a nice way to illustrate the issue so that it could be resolved. I'm

going to go to the original thread now so we can get this worked out.

I know it was fixed in 6.0.2 beta, but just in case anyone didn't try it, it's fixed in 6.1.0 (which has just been made available).

The only way that I found to use zooming and panning simultaneously with the magic mouse in OSX is to activate the "Legacy mouse mode" in the Eaglecad 6.1.0 prefs and also install this app http://dangerousprototypes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2097#p20115 called "Mouse Assistant" which let you the possibility to press shift key and clicking mouse to do panning simulating the "middle click" in OSX. Is also usefull for me with other apps like Sketchup.
