Subdesigns, how to

Hello,

 

Sometimes I use subdesigns in a PCB.

e.g a RF transceiver, that is always the same.

Is there a way to use such a subdesign in schematics

(yes, copy and paste) AND in the board without having to route it all

over again?

    In V6 it's possible, with some effort. The procedure is not

    straight-forward. This is what I do:

     

    1. create a new empty project

    2. draw schematic and layout of your block

    3. open the main project

    4. use "paste from..." to paste both schematic and layout from the other

    project

     

    If you have already designed your block in the main project just

    duplicate the whole project and delete all but the interested block.

     

    I know it would be very handy to have some paste options: maintain

    layout, discard layout, etc... But cadsoft makes hard simple things...
