I have created a custom transistor part that contains 2 transistors in a single 8 pin package. I think I have built it just like any other, but when I put the part on the schematic, it shows the names as Q1G$1 and Q1G$2. Why not Q1A and Q1B? Thanks.

Because you need to name the gates in the device. What you have are the
default gate names. Normally you don't see those but they show up when
there are multiple gates per part.
