Eagle stops running when select a component on schematic or board

Hi,

Since a couple of weeks now I have a problem with Eagle 5.3 Professional.

It has worked without problems, thats make the problem vague.

It runs on a Windows 7 Ultimate laptop, 3GB intern memory, 32bit.

I can put a component in the schematic.

But when I select is with the 'Move' function and click on a componet, my screen becomes gray and there comes a error 'Eagle doesn't react anymore and would be closed' (in Dutch off course, so I don't know if I translated it correctly).

The problem only happens when I'd selected the 'Move button'.

Any other buttons/functions works fine.. Very strange, but maybe it's a known problem?

The problems happens in the Schematic Editor and in the Board Editor.

I tried running both in 'compatibility mode', run it as administrator and run it as 'XP Pro SP3'.

But still got the problem.

I tried reïnstalling (even with Revo Uninstaller Pro), but the strange point is, that when I reinstall Eagle, it has my own configuration again.. so somewhere on my harddisk Eagle put a configuration file, which (in my opinion) I need to delete before reinstall Eagle completely.

I tried it (without deleting that file, described above) and the problem stays.

I installed it on another computer, also Windows 7 Ultimate but a 64bit, and there it works fine.

But I'm wondering what kind of solution there is for my laptop?

Anyone an idea?

Regards,

John

    Hello John,

Before trying anything else, I think it would be a good idea to download

the latest release in the 5 series (5.12) from the Cadsoft FTP site and

see if the problem persists when you install that version.

You are entitled to use that with your license and it has solved a number

of bugs from the earlier releases.

Agreed, it is somewhat strange that a previous working installation just

stopped. If you didn't change any hardware on your computer then maybe

some software installation (windows update?) modified something that

    causes Eagle to crash.

Just try with the latest version and see what happens:

    ftp://ftp.cadsoft.de/eagle/program/5.12/

    Richard
